Description

Transform your living space with our sexto lambskin throw in natural white color. They’re ultra lightweight, slinky supple short wool Icelandic lambskins—versatile, one-of-a-kind pieces that serve beautifully draped over the back of a sofa and used as a throw.  Sewn in the USA using imported Icelandic lambskins. Their edges are not smooth due to how thick their skin is at the neck which makes it very tough to work and they’re left in their organic shape from the tannery.

The pelts used to make our 6 pelt throw are from organically raised Icelandic sheep and are exceptional pieces showcasing the natural beauty of unbleached white wool in its purest form. The natural coloring creates a sophisticated palette where shades of ivory, cream and ecru tones blend organically—ensuring no two pieces are ever alike.

Why Icelandic Sheepskin?
Icelandic sheep produce a distinctive long, medium soft wool that’s naturally insulating yet breathable. When sheared short it provides a low maintenance sheepskin with all the benefits without the fuss!

Eco-Conscious Excellence:

Every sheepskin is eco-tanned using traditional European plant-based methods that exceed U.S. safety standards. Our biodegradable tanning process uses tannin-rich botanical extracts and bio-based lactic acid—never chromium or heavy metals. Each pelt meets strict European environmental regulations while maintaining exceptional quality and durability.

What Makes This Special:

  • 100% natural, white Icelandic wool ( whiter than the typical natural white sheepskin )
  • Organically raised sheep
  • Short wool length (ideal for easy, no fuss maintenance)
  • Soft wool with some curl
  • The hides used to create this piece are used for upholstery, garments and similar projects so they’re very supple and more like a blanket and really not suitable to use as an actual rug.
  • Naturally hypoallergenic and antimicrobial
  • One-of-a-kind coloring and character
  • Photos show an example of the 6 pelt sexto sheepskin you will receive!

Care: Shake out regularly taking care to hold the center seam when shaking; spot clean with cold water and mild wool cleaner.

Sizing & Thickness

Sheepskin Thickness and Density

Each sheepskin is genuinely unique—these are natural hides, not factory-made products, so no two are ever alike. We know thickness and density matter when choosing a sheepskin, which is why we created our own comparison method. We fold each pelt in half, then gather it into three folds and place it on a chair for photos. This lets you visually compare the bulk and density of similarly-sized sheepskins before you buy—a level of transparency no other sheepskin retailer offers.

Sheepskin rugs & Sizing

Sheepskin measurements are approximate, as each hide is measured individually by hand. We follow the industry-standard method of measuring diagonally across the entire wool surface at its widest and longest points. In 2025, we began taking photos of each hide’s backside instead of the wool face, so you can see the actual skin size and get a better sense of the wool length.

How we measure our sheepskin rugs

Typical Hide Edges

Please note, all skins will have shorter wool around the edges since sheep do not have long hair on their bellies. Some longer wool sheepskin will hide the sides better than others but it will almost always be present.

Color Info

Sheepskin Coloring

Depending on the lighting and colors in your home, the sheepskin may have different color tones more prominent than others seen on our website.

  • Natural sheepskins can have a mixture of tones such as cream, white, gray, tan, black and brown. It’s possible that a natural sheepskin can display all the colors in a single hide or show a combination of some of those colors. No two natural sheepskins will be alike.

  • A natural white sheepskin will NEVER be solid white. Natural white sheepskins can vary from a cream, ivory and often with lanolin which makes the sheep’s wool appear slightly yellow or beige. When placed near other warm tones, people rarely notice the color of lanolin.

  • A natural black sheepskin can be anywhere from very black, a deep brown black with reddish highlights due to sun exposure and sometimes have gray hairs.

  • A natural brown sheepskin can display a variety of shades from very light brown, golden brown, reddish brown to a dark chocolate brown. Sometimes a brown sheepskin can have all of those colors present in a single hide.

  • Natural gray sheepskins are stunning, rare and present with a variety of colors. Browns, blacks, creams, lanolin (beige) & different degrees of gray can be present.

Eco-Tanned Sheepskins

Eco-Tanning

Our pelts are expertly tanned using time-honored plant-based agents perfected over generations in Europe, ensuring a superior product. Each sheepskin adheres to stringent European regulations, guaranteeing that all tanning agents are biodegradable and environmentally friendly—standards that surpass U.S. safety regulations. The hides undergo a meticulous process: washed in tannin-rich water and fortified with bio-based lactic acid to preserve the wool, followed by stabilization of the leather’s collagen with vegetable extract-based tannins.

Our skins are never tanned using chromium or heavy metals at any stage of production.

Our medical-grade sheepskins go through a unique plant-based tanning process known as Relugan, reflecting our dedication to eco-friendly practices without compromising on quality.
