Who We Are
Rooted in the Land. Chosen with Care.
Noryageur is a small, off-grid American family business with deep roots in the outdoors and a lasting respect for the animals, materials, and landscapes that make our work possible.
From our business in NEK Vermont, we curate genuine sheepskin rugs, lambskin throws, pelts, and hides selected for their natural beauty, comfort, texture, and one-of-a-kind character.
Our work is guided by a simple belief: the most beautiful pieces are often the ones nature has already made.

EST. 2018
Noryageur began in 2018, not with a formal business plan, but with a blanket.
A quality sheepskin first entered our home as a source of warmth and comfort for family. What we discovered was something deeper than softness alone. There was a natural weight, warmth, and quiet comfort to sheepskin that no synthetic material had ever quite matched. It made cold days feel easier, rooms feel softer, and ordinary spaces feel more cared for.
That personal discovery became the beginning of our work.
What started as a search for comfort within our own family grew into a small business rooted in the same idea: to offer natural pieces that bring warmth, beauty, and a sense of ease into the homes of others.
Comfort, warmth and Quiet Beauty
A sheepskin has a way of changing a room without demanding attention. Draped over a favorite chair, layered across the foot of a bed, placed beside a fireplace, or used as a soft landing underfoot, it adds texture, warmth, and a natural sense of invitation.
Part of its appeal is comfort. Part of it is warmth. But much of it is visual as well. A genuine sheepskin brings softness to hard lines, richness to simple interiors, and character to spaces that might otherwise feel unfinished.
- By the fire, it feels timeless.
- In a bedroom, it offers warmth where bare feet land first.
- On a chair or bench, it softens the everyday.
- In a reading nook, it creates a place to retreat.
- In a living room, it becomes part of the atmosphere.
We started this business to share that feeling: the quiet pleasure of a home made warmer, softer, and more deeply lived in.
A Natural Material with Purpose
Sheepskin is a natural material with a long history of use. For centuries, it has been valued for warmth, insulation, durability, and comfort. Unlike many synthetic alternatives, a genuine sheepskin is made from natural wool and leather, materials that are meant to be used, cared for, and appreciated over time.
The hides we source are byproducts of established food, wool, milk, and lanolin industries. No sheep is raised for its skin alone. Our role is to honor a material that would otherwise be wasted and give it lasting purpose in the home.
Why We Source from Europe
We primarily source from Europe because sheep and lamb are part of long-standing agricultural and culinary traditions there. This creates a more consistent supply of high-quality pelts and a more established infrastructure for responsible tanning and finishing.
It is not that American sheep cannot produce beautiful hides; they can. But the lamb industry is much smaller in the United States, which means fewer available pelts and less consistency in the supply chain. We follow the material where the food and fiber traditions already exist, and for sheepskin, that path most often leads to Europe.
Zero Waste, by Nature
Sheep are among the most fully utilized animals in agriculture. When managed responsibly, nearly every part serves a purpose.
- Meat provides food.
- Milk is used for cheese and other traditional foods.
- Wool is shorn for textiles.
- Lanolin is valued in skincare and industry.
- The hide becomes the sheepskin we work with.
To us, using the pelt is not excess. It is completing the circle.
The Noryageur Difference
Noryageur is for those who are looking for something real: a natural material, a thoughtfully chosen piece, and a level of individuality that cannot be mass produced.
Many of our sheepskins are one of a kind. We photograph individual pieces whenever possible, describe their color and texture honestly, and take care to show the natural variation that makes each hide distinct. Some are chosen for softness, others for density, rare markings, unusual color, size, drape, or character.
We do not rely on pressure, paid influence, or constant marketing. We prefer clear photographs, honest descriptions, fair pricing, and thoughtful service. When you are ready, we are here.
A Quiet Way of Doing Business
We live close to the materials we sell.
Our business is operated entirely off the grid and a small footprint by design. When we are not working, we are often outside hiking, snowshoeing, paddling, foraging, or simply moving through the seasons here in Vermont.
The natural world is not a backdrop for our brand. It is part of our daily life, and it shapes the way we choose, describe, and care for the pieces we offer.
We are a small American business in the truest sense: a small team, a small footprint, and deep care for what we sell and where it comes from.
“We believe the best products are ones you can feel good about owning, beautiful because of what they are, not in spite of how they were made.”
— Noryageur
