Who we are
Made from the land,
returned to it
We are a small, off-grid American family business with deep roots in the outdoors, and a profound respect for the animals and ecosystems that make our work possible.

EST. 2018
This is the year Noryageur business began not with a business plan, but with a blanket. My wife and her mother both live with chronic pain, the kind that makes cold weather genuinely hard. When they discovered what a quality sheepskin could do, it was unlike anything else they’d tried. Not just warmth, but a deep, lasting, enveloping comfort that no synthetic fiber has ever quite matched. It eased something that most things couldn’t touch.
Watching that transformation made me want to share it. If a sheepskin could do that for the people I love most, there were surely others out there who needed the same thing, people living with chronic pain, people who are always cold, people who simply hadn’t yet discovered what it feels like to sink into something truly natural at the end of a hard day.
What started as finding relief for family became a quiet mission: to bring a little more comfort into the lives of as many people as we could reach, from our small corner of Vermont.
Comfort, warmth and a little style too
Here’s something nobody tells you before their first sheepskin: you won’t stop at one. It starts with a single hide, maybe draped over a favorite chair, or laid across the foot of the bed. And then you notice how the room feels different. Softer. More settled. Like something was missing before and you just didn’t know it.
One tends to lead to two, two leads to three — and before long you have a favorite spot in every room. That’s not a sales pitch. That’s just what happens.
Part of it is the comfort. Part of it is the warmth. But part of it, and this surprises people, is the look! A sheepskin draped over a sofa or chair has a way of making a space feel intentional and alive. When it’s not being laid upon, it becomes part of the room: textural, natural, quietly beautiful in a way that very few home pieces manage.
🔥 By the fire
Where it all started, and where it always makes sense
🌿 Porch or study
Because comfort shouldn’t stop at the living room door
🛏 Bedroom
Foot of the bed, or beside it — where bare feet land first
🛋 Living room
Draped over your favorite chair — the first one
📖 Reading nook
The spot you retreat to — made ten times better
We started this business to bring others a piece of that, warmth, comfort, and the quiet pleasure of a home that feels genuinely cared for. If you’ve found your way here, you probably already understand.
♻ A truly renewable material
Sheepskin is one of the few genuinely renewable, natural materials available today. Unlike synthetic alternatives derived from petroleum, sheepskin is a living, biodegradable fiber that has clothed and sheltered humanity for millennia. When a sheepskin reaches the end of its life, it returns to the earth, not to a landfill for centuries.
Sustainability isn’t a marketing angle for us. It’s the reason we chose this material in the first place.
Never killed for their skins
Every hide we source is a byproduct. No sheep is ever raised or slaughtered for its skin alone. Our pelts come from animals raised for meat, milk, wool, and lanolin, and the hide is simply what remains after the primary use. To discard it would be the real waste.
Lamb is a beloved staple across Europe, a cultural and culinary tradition stretching back thousands of years. Because of this deep demand for lamb meat, European pelts are naturally abundant, high quality, and ethically traceable in ways that are difficult to match domestically.
This is why we source from Europe rather than the United States. It isn’t that American sheep don’t produce beautiful hides, they do. But the lamb meat industry is far smaller here, which means fewer pelts, less consistent supply, and a less developed infrastructure for processing them responsibly. We follow the food chain, and that chain runs through Europe.
✦ Zero waste, by nature
The sheep is one of the most fully utilized animals in agriculture. When a flock is managed with care, almost nothing is wasted:
Meat
The primary reason flocks are raised across Europe
Milk
Prized for cheese and yogurt across the Mediterranean
Fiber
Shorn annually into wool used in textiles worldwide
Lanolin
Extracted from wool and used in skincare and industry
Hide
The pelt, what we work with, and honor. Choosing to use it isn’t extractive. It’s completing the loop.
Why buy from Noryageur?
Because you’re looking for something real. A high quality, unique, one-of-a-kind piece, not a product pulled from a mass warehouse, not something endorsed by a stranger on the internet. Something chosen with care, by people who actually believe in it.
In a world of algorithmic recommendations, manufactured five-star reviews and paid video influencers, we do something increasingly rare: we just tell you the truth. We only offer what we genuinely love. We source from tanneries we trust. We price fairly. And we let the product speak for itself.
Ethically sourced
Every hide comes from tanneries we have chosen carefully with values aligning with ours
No paid influence
We don’t pay influencers. We don’t manufacture reviews.
No pressure, ever
We don’t chase you with marketing emails or harass you with unwanted advertising over and over before or after you become our customer. When you’re ready, we’re here. Until then, we’ll leave you be.
We live what we sell
We operate our business completely off the grid. Solar power, well water, wood heat, our footprint is as small as we can make it. Just us, the land, and the work.
When we’re not at the workbench, we’re outside. Every season pulls us outdoors, hiking ridge-lines in the fall, snowshoeing through winter silence, paddling rivers in the spring thaw, foraging and camping through the summer. The natural world isn’t our backdrop. It’s our life. And it’s the reason we care deeply about every sourcing and production decision we make.
We are a small American business in the most literal sense: small team, small footprint, big care for what we make and where it comes from.
“We believe the best products are ones you can feel good about owning, beautiful because of what they are, not in spite of how they were made.”
